The Journey

From The Harbour to The Sea

A six month journey into deeper purpose

There comes a point when success and security are no longer enough. And authenticity becomes more important than approval.

The career may look right on paper. The projects may be interesting. Yet we are not yet truly fulfilled and at peace in the world.

That question returns:

Is this really it?

Many people try to resolve this by changing roles, launching new ventures, or pursuing work that appears more meaningful. But the deeper longing is rarely satiated by a different job alone.

Because the real question is not simply what should I do with my life?

It is: How do I want to live?

People often arrive searching for direction. What they discover is that what was needed was depth.

And they keep wanting to move from one place or role to the next, when sometimes what is needed is to allow yourself to be moved. It’s a very different orientation.

Soul purpose is not something we create or choose. It is something we uncover and live — in how we relate, how we work, and how we love.

To recognise our path we must slow down, listen more carefully, and become more honest with ourselves than our culture usually allows.

The Harbour and the Sea

I explore this journey through this guiding metaphor.

The harbour represents the life we build around security, expectation and identity. It keeps us safe, but eventually many of us sense that something in us longs for deeper waters.

The sea represents the deeper life that is calling us, a life that welcomes the unknown and knows that fear and resistance are part of the adventure.

This six month journey is designed as a threshold; an invitation to adventure beyond the harbour of security and familiarity, hoist the sail and trust the winds of your Soul.

A threshold is a beginning and a leaving behind. The life we have outgrown, the old ways of seeing and being — they are respectfully laid to rest. And the new chapter, even when it cannot yet be named, has space to arrive.

This is a lifelong adventure, not just 6 months.

This journey can be undertaken either within a small group or through private one-to-one guidance.

The 1:1 journey is available at a different investment. You can find details on the Personal Guidance Page.

What this journey asks of you

This journey asks for a willingness to slow down.

This work deserves five hours each week, including the group calls.

Rather than searching for answers out in the world, we turn our attention inwards and begin listening more carefully to what is already here.

The group is intentionally small, no more than six people, so that each person can be fully seen and supported as they navigate their own path.

This is a one year commitment in spirit. The first six months are guided closely by me. The six months that follow are lighter and more self led, giving you space to keep integrating what has begun.

This is not a career coaching programme, although your work in the world may well change as a result.

Nor is it therapy or trauma healing. If you are currently navigating significant trauma, untreated mental illness or addiction, I would encourage you to work with a trauma informed therapist before undertaking a journey like this.

And it is not a self improvement programme, nor is it mainly about acquiring more knowledge. In many ways we are doing the opposite: stripping back, simplifying, and letting go of the effort to become someone better so that you can live more honestly as who you already are.

A sense of humour and humility helps! This work is both deep and playful.

What the work actually looks like

Throughout the journey we work with a range of practices that help you listen more deeply to your own life.

These include, but are not limited to, reflective journalling, guided visualisations, ritual, nature based enquiry, light fasting, conversation within the group, creative enquiries, reading poetry, meditation and time spent alone on the land.

Along the way you begin to recognise the difference between the expectations that have shaped your life and what feels more authentically you. You learn how to work with resistance, how to listen more carefully to your intuition, and how to recognise the deeper gifts and presence you were born to offer.

Over time these practices begin to form a rhythm you can continue long after the six months have ended.

What often emerges from this work

While every journey unfolds differently, certain shifts tend to appear over time.

Clarity about what is truly yours to live

People often begin to recognise the difference between what was expected of them and what actually feels true for them.

A deeper trust in yourself

Instead of constantly wondering if you are getting it wrong, a steadier inner compass begins to calibrate.

The courage to change what no longer fits

Many people find themselves stepping away from situations, relationships or roles that quietly drain their life.

A renewed sense of belonging

Both to yourself and to the living world around you. Nature often becomes a deeper companion and guide, awakening a wild desire and growing sense of responsibility to serve the living world.

Energy returning to life again

Creativity and meaning begin to reappear as you focus on what actually matters to you.

A clearer sense of direction

The shape of the next chapter of your life begins to form, often accompanied by a renewed sense of possibility.

Curious but not ready for the full journey?

I also offer a one hour workshop, where you can experience this work and explore the Harbour to the Sea metaphor for yourself.

Many people attend a workshop before deciding whether the six month journey feels right.

I began to unfold a more intimate upstanding of my own true essence, purpose and gifts. For anyone who feels that their future path is unclear or there are more exciting chapters to be written in their story – this journey is for you.

I am healthier and fitter in mind, body and spirit, and more committed to their balance than ever before. In short, I would describe the change in me has having been ‘tuned to my Soul’.
If you hear ‘the calling’, Hamish will help you tune in. There is so much to discover.

How the Journey Unfolds

This six month journey follows the natural arc of a voyage. We begin by leaving the familiar harbour, travel through deeper waters, and eventually return with a clearer sense of direction and a twinkle in our eye.

1. Leaving the Harbour

You begin by slowing down and becoming more honest about the life you are currently living. The expectations, identities and habits that have been shaping your path start to come into view.

2. Learning to Navigate

Through reflection, conversation, practices and time in nature, you begin meeting and listening to the deeper currents and guides in your life.

3. Crossing the Threshold

At the heart of the journey is a solo day on the land. This simple but powerful ceremony creates space to listen deeply, away from the noise of everyday life.

You are carefully prepared beforehand and supported afterwards so that what emerges can be received and integrated.

4. Returning with Insight

The final stage focuses on integration. The insights of the journey begin to shape how you live, work and relate to the world around you.

The Soul Quest

At the heart of this journey is a solo day on the land.

This simple ceremony is an ancient practice, in which you spend time alone in nature, in deeper participation and communion with the natural world.

You will undertake the Quest in a wild place of your choosing. I guide the preparation beforehand and the integration afterwards so that what emerges can be embodied and lived.

For many people this becomes a turning point in the journey - a moment where something previously hidden becomes visible.

For those who would prefer to undertake the Quest together in person, I offer an optional guided weekend on Dartmoor National Park.

From Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon we prepare for and undertake the Quest together on the land.

Who this journey is for

This journey tends to resonate with thoughtful adults who have already walked some distance in life, yet sense that the deeper journey is only just beginning.

Often life looks good from the outside. A career has been built. Responsibilities are being met. Yet something in you knows there may be more to your life than maintaining what already exists.

Many people arrive at this work at a crossroads. Sometimes this follows a period of change or uncertainty or loss. At other times the call simply grows stronger over time until it can no longer be refused.

This journey may be a good fit if you:

• sense that the life you are living no longer tells the whole story of who you are

• feel drawn toward deeper meaning, nature or spiritual inquiry

• are willing to slow down and reflect honestly on your life

• feel a desire to live with greater integrity, courage and authenticity

• sense that your life may hold a deeper contribution to the world

This work asks for openness, patience and a willingness to explore what emerges rather than forcing quick answers.

We may not be a good fit if you are looking for quick answers, career strategy or a purely analytical approach to purpose.

No decision is required on this before the course begins.

Next Step

If something in this page resonates, the next step is simple.

Complete the short enquiry form below and we will arrange a 30 minute conversation to explore whether this journey feels right for you.

These conversations are relaxed and honest. The purpose is simply to see whether the timing and the work feel aligned for both of us.

Both yes and no are perfectly good outcomes.

Because the group is intentionally small, places are offered following this conversation.

This journey can also be undertaken through private one-to-one guidance for those who prefer a more personal and flexible container.

Not ready for the full journey?

You might begin with a short guided reflection called The Shoreline.

This short enquiry helps you sense where you are in your life right now and what may be asking for your attention.

It includes a written guide, an audio reflection, and a short meditation.

All you need is twenty quiet minutes and a willingness to listen.
