A Coastal Immersion

“A 24 hr slow coastal adventure, for those too busy to see their next step.”

The Call

Sometimes we feel rudderless and scattered. We are so busy in the ‘doing’ we have forgotten where we are going and what we are doing it all for. We race from one thing to the next and yet we don't arrive; anywhere. We exhaust ourselves; our relationships suffer. We can, if we are not paying attention, grow ever more distant from who and what we love.

Rare, in our modern lives, are the moments of stillness, of wildness, of authentic connection. These moments are essential for us to listen to the deeper truth and wisdom that is waiting, patiently, for our attention.

The Adventure

The coastal waters of the North Norfolk coast and marshes are a hinterland, a beyond, not just of the physical world, but of the mind and soul. They are rich in life and mystery, fierce yet gentle, dynamic and constantly shifting and creating. They are a potent resource for those looking to leave old and unwanted ways behind, to recharge the spirit and to find clarity on what’s most important.

We will sail out of Wells-next-the-Sea on a beautiful and traditional whelk boat . We will do some foraging, wild swimming, deep listening, meditating, chi gong, breathwork, solitude, hearty and healthy eating and conversation around the fire.

When night falls, there may be some poetry and storytelling.  Some of us will sleep out on deck, whilst some of us will keep watch, listening to the lapping of the waves and the cry of the sea birds, hopefully under a starlit sky.  At the mercy of the moon, we rise and fall with the tides. We return back to Wells, to civilisation, within approx 24hrs, depending on the wind.

Let’s embrace a way of being that values the beauty of taking it slow, the thrill of adventure, and the importance of preserving our planet and its stories for future generations. Prepare to have fun, to be inspired, enchanted, immersed, challenged and humbled.

What are you seeking now in your life? What could be seeking you?

Hamish is a leadership coach and purpose guide™.

His journey from serving with the British Armed Forces to the work he does today, has given him a deep understanding of what it’s like to feel torn between the career you feel you should want, and the life that’s calling you to be inspired, challenged and fully yourself.

Sometimes that life is hard to see. And the courage to choose it can feel just out of reach.

With an approach that has emerged from indigenous and ancient wisdom traditions, contemporary psychological insight and embodiment practices, his work is about guiding people in how to be radically honest with themselves and follow their OWN Soul path.

After many peripatetic years as a Royal Marines Officer followed by time as a humanitarian Henry wanted to return to his home in Norfolk, be with my family and yet still lead an adventurous and ethical life. A vision emerged whilst sitting on a beach in Mogadishu, after a long week during the Somalia famine of 2011; an adventurous business based on Norfolk's traditional wooden fishing boats and to champion best environmental and sustainable practice including sail cargo. Today that vision is The Coastal Exploration Company.

Our commitment to the environment, adventure, heritage, and mindful living is at the heart of what we do. We offer experiences that go beyond mere adventure, deeply rooted in the rhythms of nature and the richness of history. These journeys are designed to reconnect you with nature, recharge your spirit, and embrace a lifestyle that prioritizes slow and sustainable living.

I think some journeys call us long before we ‘book’ and this was one of those.

A place that offered surrender, time out; a place to move forward from divorce. As soon as I stepped on board the boat I felt like we were meeting old family.

The hearty generous food, the morning whispers over mugs washed out at sea & coffee; the spaces of silence and genuine check ins were warm welcoming and I loved how we’d go about our little activities and then return to that place of ‘home’. A cup of tea on a stove that had no rush to brew, the simplicity of being on water; looking after each other & our vessel; simply connecting in nature.

I suppose I would call it, looking back, the place of the timeless.

I have, for a very long time, craved the romantic intimacy of a night on a boat. The words ‘some of us will keep watch whilst some of us will sleep’ tore my very heart open into a big wide yes.

I felt a keen sense of mastery at Henry’s helm and Hamish complimented this perfectly as a wonderful alchemist. Both men held space so beautifully and truly it is something I have missed in today’s society.

It will stay with me forever…. And forever unravel my heart

This was a profound and beautiful experience. Sailing into the saltmarsh, one of Europe’s most intimate wilderness ecosystems. Sailing, swimming, walking, thinking. Opening up to what is around us, between us, within us. Inspirational
meditations and reflections led by Hamish. Wonderful meals created by Henry. Sleeping on deck, sunset, sunrise, tides, birdsong, and a very curious seal. Perfect. Let’s do it again. Thank you.
